10th May 2025. The Rhenish Hanseatic League has brought a crate with the Kamper Kogge on its way to the International Hanseatic Day in Visby.
The Rhenish Hanseatic League has sent specialities from the region on a centuries-old Hanseatic route with the Kamper Kogge. Since mid-May, the ship has been sailing the 700 nautical miles from the Dutch town of Kampen, not far from the IJsselmeer, to Visby, the capital of the Swedish island of Gotland. The 45th International Hanseatic Day will be held there over Whitsun, in which the Rhenish Hanseatic League, which includes the cities of Neuss, Dinslaken, Wesel, Rees, Kalkar/Grieth and Emmerich am Rhein, will also be taking part.
To coincide with the start of the International Hanseatic Day in Visby from 5th to 8 th June, the cog is due to enter the harbour. There, the Rhenish Hanseatic League will once again take delivery of its crate and thus have shipped some of its products intended for presentation by sea, as was customary over 400 years ago. It is looking forward to being able to present the Lower Rhine region and its Hanseatic history internationally there.
